She stood, pin cushion in hand, staring out the huge plate glass window. The rain drizzled over passing shoppers who huddled and shared umbrellas with loved ones. She wished she could have someone she could trust, to protect her when life pissed all over her, but she didn’t have anyone like that. The big brick wall she’d built had seen to that.
A flashback of running through a downpour with her
father hit, and hit her hard. He’d thrown his coat over her, sheltering her and leaving himself open to the elements

"She wished she could have that; someone she could trust, to protect her when life pissed all over her." That's fantastic. And the memory of Dad was great, too. Great characterization here.
ReplyDeleteSo sad and poignant. Well done!
ReplyDeleteLovely moment in every way: the metaphor equating rain and life-piss, the poignant memory of her father, the wistfulness. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteSuch a poignant flashback. Hope she finds someone to tear down that wall.
ReplyDeleteBut I hope it's not the character Colin portrays! Yikes, wasn't expecting that at all - he was perfect in his seduction, then bam! Literally, lol
A touching and beautifully written moment, thank you.
ReplyDeleteVery nice capture of a memory. Great six!
ReplyDeleteVery intense six. Really dragged me and made me want more.

ReplyDeletePoignant scene. Watching the closeness of others when you're feeling alone goes right to the heart.
ReplyDeleteI loved this. The bit about her father leaving himself open to the elements to protect her; it is the kind of action a parent takes naturally but the child doesn't appreciate or even realise until they have grown. You have managed to convey so much in so few words. Brilliant JoAnne.
ReplyDeletep.s - apologies if I have posted this twice, it wouldn't let me the first time for some reason.
Love the melancholy of the scene, Jo!
ReplyDeleteHuggles,
Gracen

ReplyDeleteVery tender six. Her regret and loss shine through.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sad scene, both her standing at the window and her memory. I hope someone gentle and loving finds her soon.
ReplyDeleteA poignant scene, but we now care about the heroine and hope for a better future for her. Great six!
