Kali and Kate chat about SEAL THE DEAL on radio show BETWEEN MOONLIT COVERS

I love listening to Kali Willows weekly blogtalk radio show Between Moonlit Covers, and was thrilled when my editor guested on the show. I was listening with a keenness, wondering what they may talk about. Imagine my surprise (and delight) to hear a great shout out for Dracula's Kiss and then a wonderful little discussion about my selkies and SEAL THE DEAL Thrilled. I was so thrilled.

author @ssaradaniel wants to know.... live in the moment or plan for the future

Live in the Moment or Plan for the Future?
By Sara Daniel

I’ve always been a planner, but as I get older, I realize that the times I am happiest are the ones when I’m relaxed, living directly in the moment, enjoying life with my family. The times I am most stressed are also the ones where I haven’t planned well, and everything is blowing up in my face, leaving me stressed and overwhelmed by the moment. So, to live in the moment or plan for the future? I think most of us can agree there’s probably a compromise somewhere between those two extremes, but what happens when you put two people together who are at opposite ends of the spectrum? In Captivating the CEO, sparks fly!

Colin Vanderhayden might only be thirty-five, but he has retirement on his mind full time. Those financial gurus who encourage you to save and scrimp and plan for the worse? They have nothing on Colin. He is all work and no play, determined not to let his life crumble around him the way he watched his grandparents’ plans for retirement dissolve into tragedy.

Then Willow Jeffries steps into his life. If Willow wants something, she does it now. She doesn’t defer gratification. After all, who can guarantee you’re going to be around in the future to enjoy all those things you put off? Certainly not Willow. She doesn’t know how much time she has, but she’s going to make every minute count right now, and what she wants to do most with her time is show Colin how to have to good time and relax.

And she might just be making progress, as long as she doesn’t slip up and allow Colin to start planning on her as part of his future…

Captivating the CEO
By Sara Daniel
Genres: contemporary romance, office romance, medical romance, new adult

He only plans for the future. She might not have a future.

When live-for-the-moment massage therapist Willow Jeffries bursts into Colin Vanderhayden's office, she makes it her mission to loosen up the future-focused CEO, knowing each moment of the present is too precious to waste. Despite her immediate attraction, the only future she can offer is one full of heartache.

The last thing Colin needs is a flighty woman messing up his carefully-constructed plans, but her heavenly massages and addictive personality prove hard to resist. But he has no idea how sick she is.

No longer able to ignore her life-threatening medical condition, Willow slips away to spare Colin a miserable future with her. Is Colin willing to sacrifice his well-laid future plans to get Willow back?

Excerpt:

Cupping her face with his hands and angling his mouth, he poured the intensity she'd previously only seen him devote to his work into turning her body into a tingling, craving mass of need. She loved the way he cradled her-so gentle, yet firm.

Stars danced in front of her eyes, but she willed them away to press her tongue between his lips. No matter how light-headed she became, she refused to miss a moment of the kiss. Colin's mouth made the opportunity to enjoy worth the risk of passing out.

But, too soon, he broke off, panting, his eyes dilated with desire. “I have to get that.”

“Get what?” His words made no sense, then her ears started ringing. No, not her ears. His damned phone.

“Of course you do.”

But he'd already turned his attention to a conversation he gave far more importance to than anything she offered.

Sinking onto the couch, she pressed her fingers to her still tingling lips. Dear God, she hoped she didn't affect him as strongly as he affected her. If he became emotionally invested, she'd bring pain and misery into his life.

Cate Master's new tease is CHARMED #ReadingRocks #Snippet #PNR

Charmed
The Vitruvian Man, book 2
By Cate Masters
Dark fantasy/paranormal romance
Coming Aug. 30, 2013
Decadent Publishing

Blurb
Brought together by accident, bound by fate—and magic.  Love works its charm over Bruno DiCesare and Melina Weaver during his transformation from beast to man. But love likewise blinds them to the secrets each holds. Bruno thinks his secret will devastate Melina. Melina’s afraid Bruno will hate her for what she’s become. Neither guess the greatest danger lurks outside their door – and will force them to decide between love and life itself.

Excerpt
Wow, so fast. Melina held Bruno’s hand until his grasp went slack. The treatment seemed to take effect almost as soon as he’d swallowed it. He shouldn’t react immediately; his body should be able to handle it better by this time. Unless Eldie increased the dosage?
Suspicion drew her gaze to the bottle. Of course she couldn’t tell by sight, and she had no idea what ingredients the sorceress had used in the other preparations. She shouldn’t have agreed to it so readily, nor trusted Eldie so blindly. In any other situation, she’d have asked to review the complete specifications.
She stroked Bruno’s arm. I wanted him cured for me as much as for himself. If her selfishness harmed him in any way, she’d carry that guilt forever. Try to make it up to him forever.
For now, she’d have to occupy her mind with something else or drive herself insane. His deep breaths meant he’d sleep for at least a day.
A hushed sigh sounded from the other room.
“Eldie?” Back so soon?
No answer came except for a slight rustle. She crept to the curtain. “Who’s here?”
Even as she asked, she sensed a presence unlike any she’d encountered before. Everything remained as she’d left it, the lamp glowing in the center of the table, laptop beside the scattered books. Lucky the sorceress hadn’t seen them. Luck, or something more.
She returned to the volume she’d left open. A page rippled, lifted straight up and fell over. Another muffled sigh escaped. Melina. The whisper so slight, it was barely audible. Yet without a doubt, she heard her name.
She traced a finger down the spine. It quivered beneath her touch like the plucked string of a guitar. With a gasp, she jerked her hand back.
Uncertain she hadn’t imagined it, she repeated the move and got the same result.
How? She pulled the chair close to the table and examined the pages. Nothing out of the ordinary, except perhaps how finely executed the handwritten entries appeared, each letter as perfect as the last. Almost like they’d been printed to fool the eye of a curious reader. An Italian reader. If only these were in English.
The longer she studied the text, the clearer it became. The letters blurred, shimmered, then shifted, rearranging themselves into… English. She didn’t need to enter the words into the translator site on her laptop, she understood every sentence.
She ran her fingers lightly over the page. The letters shifted again, scattering at her touch, as if she’d disturbed the surface of a pond.
“What the…” It changed back to Italian, the letters appearing to float. She swirled a fingertip across the surface, and the words formed a swarm, like a school of fish following bait. Like fish, they seemed to nibble at the tip of her finger. Impossible, but it tickled.
Fascinating. But this silliness got her nowhere. She’d never learn anything if this kept up. “Stop.”
The scripted words froze in a jumbled, nonsensical order.
She hovered her hand above the passage, and the letters stretched up off the page in tall columns to meet it. The pull of the connection reached inside her skin, as if it had been magnetized.
This is crazy. But obviously it’s not. It’s happening. It’s real.

Indian-origin Lara Reddy left London after her husband dumps her for a more accommodating uterus—at least, that’s what his desertion feels like. Bumping into him and his pregnant new missus doesn’t help matters any, and she thus jumps on a prestigious job offer. The kicker? The job is in Mauritius, the homeland of her parents, and a society she ran away from over a decade earlier.
But once there, Lara has no escape. Not from the gossip, the contempt, the harassing matchmaking...and certainly not from the man she hoped never to meet again. The boy she’d loved and lost—white Mauritian native, Eric Marivaux.
Back when they were teens, Eric left her, and Lara vowed she’d never let herself be hurt again. Today, they are both adults, and facing the same crossroads they’d stood at so many years earlier.
Lara now stands on the other side of Mauritian society. Will this be the impetus she needs to take a chance on Eric and love again?

Mauritius, where this trilogy takes place, is a small tropical island in the southern Indian Ocean. There are no natives, and the land has been entirely populated by immigrants. Under Dutch rule in the 17th century; French rule until 1810; then a British colony from 1810 to 1968 when it reached independence, the island is a mix of races and religions.
Despite all races, cultures, and religions living together in harmony in what is termed ‘the rainbow nation’, an unspoken segregation still exists where descendants of colonizers (mainly the French who remained despite British rule) and descendants of African slaves, Indian indentured labourers, or Chinese traders. This is the backdrop Lara, of Indian descent, must face with Eric, whose ancestors were wealthy French plantation owners.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Zee Monodee has delivered everything one would expect in a story set in Mauritius...and then some. Descriptions allowed the setting to become a part of the story in such a way it felt like a major character in the story, as did the cultural aspects. The Other Side is such a colorful read filled with wonderful people and, the dynamics between the heroine and her close friend and family members trying to marry her off are amusing and realistic. The Otherside is delightfully charming, a must read.

Zee Monodee
Stories about love, life, relationships... in a melting-pot of culture
Zee is an author who grew up on a fence – on one side there was modernity and the global world, on the other there was culture and traditions. Putting up with the culture for half of her life, one day she decided she'd stand tall on her wall and dip toes every now and then into both sides of her non-conventional upbringing.
From this resolution spanned a world of adaptation and learning to live on said wall. The realization also came that many other young women of the world were on their own fence.
This particular position became her favorite when she decided to pursue her lifelong dream of writing – her heroines all sit 'on a fence', whether cultural or societal, in today's world or in times past, and face dilemmas about life and love.
Hailing from the multicultural island of Mauritius, Zee is a degree holder in Communications Science. She is a head-over-heels wife, in-over-her-head mum to a tween son, best-buddy-stepmum to a teenage lad, an incompetent domestic goddess, eternal dreamer, and an absolute, shameless bookholic. When she isn’t penning more stories and/or managing the Ubuntu line at Decadent Publishing, you can bet you’ll find her with her nose in her tablet, ‘drinking in’ a good book.

LET'S TALK 1NS's, JUNKIES :D WOOT!

I've read so many of them, so It's kinda hard to limit it,  so I'll share a few of my favs.

Lightning (Sleepy Hollow, #1)Lightning by Taryn Kincaid
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Lightning by Taryn Kincaid had me right from the opening sentence, and I was pulled into Taryn's world of Sleepy hollow all over again; just like I was in Sleepy Hollow Dreams.

Oh. MY. GOSH! This story is hilarious. It's smoking hot. And a most excellent addition to the 1Night Stand series.

I loved the cooky twilight references.

“Lil’s whiter than Edward Cullen and you’re talking about where her diploma should go? It’s like the blind leading the sexless.”

And Lily's interaction with her succubi sisters is so natural and snarky. And their sexual antics had me laughing so hard!

Dag. Hate to feast and run, but something’s just come up.

Mortals. Bleh.

But it's not all about the laughs. Oh no. Campbell is delicious.

“I am your date, baby.” His sensual whisper blazed through her like a jolt of electricity, doing tantalizing things to her heart and mind. “Last chance to back out. If you want to.”

Lily and Campbell together are HAWT!

Wet Dream (1 Night Stand, #24)Wet Dream by J.M. Madden
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Love this new twist on my new favorite series :) Madame Eve proves once again she knows what she's doing when it comes to making matches...even when the couple isn't even aware they've been matched! LOVE IT :) Are you looking for a short packed with strong character development and sizzling bedroom scenes, give this one a shot xx

No Dogs Allowed (1 Night Stand, #84)No Dogs Allowed by Nicole Hicks
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Never have I howled this much while reading a short story before. Ms. Hicks surely did pack in the snark and snap in this 1 Night Stand Story. Not only did she have me laughing so hard I almost spat coffee at my reader, but she brought the heat and romance, too.
One of my new favorite 1NS books, for sure.

So pull up a comfy chair, grab yourself a tasty drink and something to nibble on…and let's get started!

If a new-to-you author, let me dish a bit about myself: I write mostly contemporary romance with a few paranormals thrown in there - my stories are usually set in Britain or have British characters. I think I'm mostly known for my Irish Kisses series with Decadent Publishing.

DECADENT LOVE

sweet irish kiss download pdf by joanne kenrick, bestselling irish kisses series romanc
I fricken love Decadent Publishing and everyone who works relentless behind the scenes to make my books shine. Heather and Lisa always answer any questions I have (even my silly questions) without judgement and always with a helpful, heartful attitude. And Valerie, the woman with many hats, does so much for Decadent I'm surprised she even knows what day it is sometimes. Then there's my editors. I heart my editors to death and then some. Yes, this chickadee is proud to be a Decadent author. And honored.

How about we start at...THE BEGINNING

I began my journey as a published fiction writer with Decadent when they accepted When A Mullo Loves A Woman back in late 2010, which was my first finished work of fiction. Looking back now, it was a small-big actually-miracle my story was accepted. I'll be forever grateful they took a chance on lil old inexperienced me. And thank goodness Decadent welcomed me into their arms and nurtured me into the author I am today, because my work was a sham. Terrible! Filled with all the big no-nos and then some. Holy heck did my very first round of edits come as a big shock to me. Editing quickly became my favorite part of the publishing process.

BLOOPERS!
Since my first story, I've written several more and have several hundred more to go. My favorite part of
being a published author has always been the editing process - I'm a sponge when it comes to editing, and adore seeing the progress to make my work shine and my future works better. With each new round of edits comes a new lesson for me as an author and reader to learn and put into practice.
Along the way, my wonderful DP editors have caught some fantastic mistakes. What the heck, I've already embarrassed myself, might as well go all the way... I stand here before you, completely naked, as I share my boo-boos for you all to giggle at from various stories... I know. I know. I hang my head in shame...but I also giggle away at my own daftness.

Hey, if I laugh, too, it means you're laughing with me and not at me.these beauts were caught by the awesome Kate Richards and are from various books:

Rachel grasped a plastic body, wiped away a trickled tear, and sniffled back her feelings

Sounds like the tear is on the mannequin

His hair sat on his head all skewed to the right

Hopefully it’s always on his head.

He explored her tonsils with his tongue like a pro

Maybe not…

G-string hiding in the crevasse of her sex
A crevasse is an opening of considerable depth and width, like a canyon. Crevice, perhaps?

Erm, a blindfold, vibrator, and anal beads

 Joanne! Way to go wild
Okay, so I included this one just because it's my favorite editorial comment to date. It was for Sweet Irish Kiss.

A sense of freedom enveloped her. And her limps, out wide and balletic in their movement, expressed her elation.

Limps?

Estella rose, smoothed out her wrinkles, and twisted her mouth into a smirk.

How did she do that?
Dunno, but if I ever figure it out, I'll be loaded!

He moved in close, his eyes squinting as if he planned on kissing her.

Why is squinting a signal of a kiss?

Here’s our room

How does he know?

He can totally read my mind. Oh…a male sookie. Shush, plot bunnies, not now!

He leaned closer, his moustache brushing her cheek and whispered,

His moustache is whispering?
It's that super hero dude again, the one who can read minds.

She cried out his name, feeling the orgasm grow inside her, bubbling in her stomach and burning the soles of her feet

Sounds sort of diseaselike.

MY ADVICE

Before you hit send, go through your manuscript and listen to it with a text to voice program for one more round of edits. It's amazing the little things you can catch when you can HEAR your story being read. If you don't have a text to speech program, try reading your story from end to the beginning, sentence by sentence; this allows you to focus on the technical stuff rather than the story; you'll catch more mistakes that way.

If I was to give any one piece of advise to an author hoping to be published with Decadent, it would be to be prepared to listen to your editor, and to not take editor comments to heart or as a personal attack on yourself. Editor comments are there to make your work shine and be the best it can be. Also, during the editing process, make notes. Lots of notes. And make a list of your noticed repetitive words. Oh, and ask questions. Lost of questions. Never sit on a concern and worry yourself. I've found my editors and publishers always happy to answer questions if they are able to.

MY LATEST DECADENT STORY TO BE ACCEPTED

It's not all bad, though. I am learning so much from Kate, my editor at Decadent. Look...see.. here's an exclusive excerpt from upcoming SEAL THE DEAL, Isle of Man and Selkie book one, a Decadent Publishing 1NS story. And it's unedited. Raw. Yes, I'm showing it all today! Dirty laundry and all. Why the heck am I doing that? Because I wanted to show how much Decadent has drummed, erm, I mean taught, me.

Finn Kneale didn’t think another lunar eclipse on February 29th would be possible, yet there it was, hanging over the ocean like a dimmed lantern, the ring in the sky his last—and only—chance to undo the oceanic spell shrouding him in misery. Sliding from his watch-point rock a few miles out from the little tourist trap where he had lived for most of his life, he delved into the depths of the Irish Sea. Water lapped, and he twisted, clapping flippers over the seafoam. Waves crashed over his mottled grey and black seal self. Excitement rushed through him and exited in a loud, brassy roar, then he unleashed another and another, each increasing in volume for the benefit of his aquatic friends. The barking, intended as an announcement, told the world Finn hoped to meet his mate tonight.
He floated in shallows, waiting, watching as the old, white lighthouse fluctuated in and out of existence. The sliver of moonlight cast a silvery light over the once-in-ruins building sitting proud again, high on the cliff’s edge. Its beacon shined bright, yet the gray sky pitched gloom below. There was all but twenty-four hours to seal the deal—as long as the lighthouse stood—then the energy balance would return to normal along the rocky shores of the Isle of Man, the historical maritime building vanishing once again. At least, that’s what his father had relayed every morning for the last four years.
Shimmying his slippery body across the pebbled beach of Port St. Mary, he took cover between tall, bulky rocks for the transformation. Safely hidden, he squeezed his eyelids closed and tried to envision his human self. Too much time had passed; he wasn’t sure his memory was close to the mark.
Think, Finn, think.
Soft cotton towels against his whiskers, the warm touch of the sun on his shoulders as he worked the farm, tasty homemade soup tangy on his tongue. Soft flesh of a woman beneath him. Oh, to be admired for his manliness rather than his cutesy seal features and bubble blowing talents. Fragmented recollections of the little things was all that had survived years of watching the shoreline.
